about

"There's all this folklore in Appalachia, about guys who build towers out of thrown out plywood or that guy who built the 'worlds largest treehouse' because God told him to. That old saying 'If you built it, they will come' totally applies. This album is about one of those guys, who decides this Cathedral has to be built out of old car parts, run down swamp boats, and instead of holy water, there's supposed to be engine oil. It doesn't make sense in a rational world, but these guys, who are considered crazy by most people, aren't rational at all. The album's got a lot of banjo, slide guitar, tin can vocals, and everything we could muster to tell this story. Sometimes I think we just put our favorite parts of Mad Max, old Johnny Dowd albums, and old-time music structure together to make this, and maybe we did. Either way, this is storytelling, and for a moment, the album lets you get into the head one of these mythological figures of rural society."
